Moto Guzzi Enduro Meet 2024
Event report 17th June:
We booked the date for this event on the 12th December 2023 hoping of course that a Saturday in June would prove to be dry and sunny.
Many thanks to Chris -1200 Stelvio, Nigel -1200 Stelvio, Dave -V100 Mandello and Alan -V10 Centauro, for turning out on their Moto Guzzis in such mixed conditions. The weather forecast was for scattered heavy showers and unfortunately it was spot on. Thankfully, the sun did appear around noon and the day wasn’t a complete washout.
The Classic Motor Hub proved to be an ideal choice for this event. We would like to thank all their team for making us feel so welcome. Located in the Cotswolds on the former site of RAF Bibury**, it has all the facilities needed for an informal get together.
They have a selection of rare vehicles for sale including some very tasty 1960’s Aston Martins and a Bentley with an 8-litre engine.
Jane and I arrived on our V85TT at the Classic Motor Hub around 10.15am in heavy rain. There were a few non Guzzi motorcycles already parked up, local riders meeting up for breakfast before going for a ride. The most interesting machine was a 1989 Norton P53 Commander. Less than 300 of these rotary engined motorcycles were produced.
Also meeting at the Classic Motor Hub was a handful of vintage cars. Some of these were open top and their occupants arrived looking slightly bedraggled. One of the cars was a 1920’s Salmson Sport. The owners had driven 80 miles from Abergavenny in South Wales that morning using minor roads. That was a real test of endurance given the weather conditions and the fact that they were open to the elements.
** RAF Bibury was a small airfield with a couple of grass landing strips and a few buildings. It played a role in the Battle of Britain and was a detachment base for the Hawker Hurricanes of 87 Squadron and later the Supermarine Spitfires of the 92 Squadron protecting the south west. The base opened in 1940 and closed in 1950.
Ever the optimists, we’ve booked Saturday 14th June 2025 at the same location for next years ‘Moto Guzzi Enduro Meet’.
